Who are you?
We’re the Girls* with Issues Comic Book Club
Girls*? What’s the *
The group started as a place for “girls” to discuss comics. In today’s world, “girls” can sometimes come across as restrictive or reductive. We are a welcoming community focusing on female-identifying and gender non-binary individuals. We strive to be an open group while consciously making space for people traditionally excluded from this genre.
The * or asterisk typically references an annotation or stands in for omitted information. In this instance, it’s a widening of the definition of “girls” to include anyone female-identifying, transitioning, or otherwise on the gender non-binary spectrum
Cool, cool…what do you do?
We meet once-a-month, in person, face-to-face to discuss one graphic novel. Recently, we’ve added one web comic in an attempt to remove the financial barrier to joining our discussions. We also have a closed Facebook group where we discuss comics, general “nerd” culture, and anything else that we think might interest the group – group trips, movie nights, etc.
